Abstract

The purpose of this study was to confirm the different Infants feeding by breastfeeding education between educated and non-educated group.

This study¢¥s design is an explanatory survey research. The educated group consisted of fifty-nine new mothers who had received breastfeeding education previously at the College of Nursing. The non educated group was made up of eighty-nine mothers who have visited D-hospital¢¥s well-baby clinic.

The data were analyzed by the chi-square tests and t-tests using SAS/PC program.

The results were as follows :

1) There was a significant difference in the breastfeeding pattern between educated and non-educated group(p=.000).

2) There was a significant difference in the decision time of breastfeeding between educated and non-educated group(p=.000).

3) There was a significant difference in the most important person who made a decision breastfeeding pattern between educated and non-educated group(p=.000).

4) There was no significant difference in the family¢¥s help to breastfeeding between educated and non-educated group.

5) There was significant difference in the ability of breastfeeding between educated and non-educated group(p=.000).

6) There was a significant difference in the satisfaction of breastfeeding between educated and non-educated group(p=.000).

7) The major reason of the milk-feeding was ¢¥a lack of milk¢¥ in educated group(42.9%) ; ¢¥a convenience of milk-feeding¢¥ in non-educated group(45.4%).

8) The major reason of the mixed-feeding was a ¢¥lack or milk¢¥(82.3%) in educated group(82.3%) and non-educated group(62.5%).

In conclusion, infants feeding was dramatically different in educated and non-educated group. The breastfeeding education effected on the feeding patterns and the related factors of feeding. So, the breastfeeding education program is very important in promoting the practice of breastfeeding.
